Kimble County Federal Custody Path
A federal defendant can move through several custodians. The person may be held by Kimble County or another local jail under an arrangement, moved by USMS, designated to BOP after sentencing, transferred to state custody, or released to immigration authorities. Ending one agency’s control does not resolve the full chain.
The BOP locator is the correct historical starting point for sentenced federal prisoners from 1982 forward. A Kimble County release log remains the right source for a local-jail episode. The federal docket explains orders, judgment, sentence, and supervised release, but may not show the exact physical exit time.
Search BOP Kimble County Records
Open the BOP Inmate Locator. Search by register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when available. A number reduces the risk of matching a person with a similar name. The biographical route uses name plus age, race, and sex.
- Enter the strongest federal identifier available.
- With a name search, test accurate spelling and known name forms.
- Compare register number, age, race, sex, and facility or release result.
- Read the release date with the exact status language.
- Check the docket and other possible custodian when destination matters.
For a person whose path began in the Kimble jail, compare the BOP result with Kimble’s destination field. The county-wide Kimble County released-inmate search routes among each custody system.
BOP Federal Release Fields
The federal locator reports a compact set of identity and custody fields. It does not provide a complete release packet or explain every transition.
| Locator field | Use and limit |
|---|---|
| Name | Starting identity field; verify with a unique number. |
| Register number | Primary BOP record identifier. |
| Age, race, and sex | Help distinguish similar names. |
| Location | Shows a current BOP facility when reported. |
| Release status | May state “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” |
| Release date | Useful federal exit marker, but not every later destination. |
BOP does not publish mugshots in this locator. It also does not cover county jail, TDCJ, USMS-only, or ICE custody. A clean BOP match therefore answers a federal-system question, not the full question of where the person is now.
Read BOP Release Language
“Released” indicates an exit from BOP custody. “Not in BOP Custody” can include people in another correctional or law-enforcement system as well as those who left federal confinement. Neither phrase alone proves community freedom.
BOP’s own statistics exclude transfers into another custodial jurisdiction, such as a state sentence or ICE detention or deportation, from its release totals. That definition reinforces the need to ask where the person went. A local, state, or immigration receiving record can change the practical meaning of the federal result.
BOP Projected and Actual Dates
A currently confined record may show a projected release date. BOP warns that First Step Act time-credit recalculation and other sentence administration can change that date. It is a planning field, not proof that release occurred.
A past result with “Released” and a date is stronger historical evidence of BOP exit. For exact type, destination, or supporting documents, use BOP’s records process and the federal docket. Do not convert a projected date into an actual event because the calendar day passed.
- Projected release
- A changeable BOP estimate for a future federal exit.
- Released
- An exit from BOP custody, with other authority still possible.
- USMS custody
- Federal pretrial or transport control that may occur outside BOP.
- Supervised release
- Court-ordered federal supervision after confinement, distinct from BOP custody.
Federal Records and BOP Contact
For data beyond the locator, use the BOP Freedom of Information Act page. Identify the person by register number and ask narrowly for the release date, release type, transfer destination, or other existing fields. Former and current prisoner records may be limited by privacy exemptions, and authorization may be needed for some third-party detail.

Search: BOP Inmate Locator
No local BOP address or release counter should be invented for Kimble County. If the locator names a federal institution, use that institution’s current official contact. If no institution appears, the federal docket, physical custodian, and records response become more important.
USMS Records Before BOP
USMS holds many federal pretrial detainees and manages court movements. It does not offer a public historical locator equivalent to BOP. A federal defendant housed under contract in a local jail may appear only through that physical custodian before designation.
The USMS custody guidance routes public location questions through custodial channels. For historical detail, a specific USMS FOIA request can seek prisoner custody, tracking, or processing records over a defined date range. The federal docket can identify commitment and judgment but not always the door-out time.
If Kimble reports a transfer to USMS, keep the Kimble booking number and federal case number. Those identifiers connect the local exit with the federal movement.
BOP Exit to ICE Custody
A federal sentence can end with a transfer to ICE rather than community release. Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator with a nine-digit A-number plus country of birth, or the biographical route with exact name, country of birth, and birth date. Locator limits and privacy rules can produce no result.
An absent ICE match does not prove release. Contact the relevant Enforcement and Removal Operations field office when an exact search fails. Keep the BOP release date, register number, A-number, and destination record together so the transition is not mistaken for freedom from custody.
Federal Court Release Context
The federal docket explains the judgment, sentence, detention order, revocation, or supervised-release terms. A person may leave prison and remain under court supervision. A revocation can return the person to custody after an earlier release.
Match the docket by case number and identity. Then compare it with the BOP result. The judgment supplies legal authority, while the locator or requested agency record supplies federal custody status. Neither replaces a Kimble release entry for time physically spent in the county jail.
View BOP Locator Evidence
The official BOP locator shows the federal identifier and biographical search routes used for national custody and release results.

The interface supports a BOP-specific finding. Its result must not be extended to county, state, USMS, or immigration custody without checking those systems.
No Federal Prison in Kimble
No BOP institution was identified within Kimble County. That means there is no local federal prison release gate, schedule, or records desk to describe. A facility shown in the national locator controls current operational information.
A Kimble connection may come from an originating arrest, local contract detention, residence, or court history. It does not make BOP a county facility. Keep the national system, federal court file, USMS custody, and Kimble jail record in their proper roles.
